Artist StatementIt is the duality of our natures, the alter egos, and the fear of expressing ourselves fully that intrigues me and pushes me to paint and draw subjects that can be quite dark. And yet sometimes my paintings will appear quite comical but with a darker edge to them and it is this contradiction that I like as I feel it mirrors the ways in which we often behave as opposed to how we really feel. In literature the Chinese box structure refers to a type of a novel written in the form of a narrative within a narrative and likewise the people and subjects I paint show the complexities of our personalities within the stories we choose to tell. |
